• The book has incomplete words in spanish. Like "Había" is written "Habá"
• I bought this book for my three-year-old daughter who loves bedtime stories. I like to read to her Spanish books so she can learn a second language. She is able to understand the story and answer all my questions. The book has big colorful images and is very easy to read. I highly recommend this book.
• I am an ESL tutor for a Spanish speaking woman, She has three young children. I use these books in our tutoring sessions, She reads the Spanish version first (it goes fast, just 2-3 minutes) so she knows the story; then I read the English to her; and finally she reads the English back to me and I help her with pronunciation. She reads the books to her children in English, Her third grade daughter is learning to read and write only English in school, so she has her daughter read the Spanish version out loud to her and the younger children. Everyone is learning and enjoying it. I will gradually purchase the entire set for her. It's a wonderful opportunity for the entire family. And I enjoy revisiting the fairy tales from my own childhood.
• Is alright, cheap but very nice, the translation needs to be improved though. I bought it for someone to learn English but the translation wasn't word by word. It was more of a story in Spanish then a translation.

• As a beginning Spanish learner, I had hoped for an easier read. I needed the translator to help with speaking, but will continue to try until I get it. Like the English Spanish together in the book, so it helps with learning Spanish words.
• I'm going to try teaching my baby Spanish and English (as well as getting better at Spanish myself) and this is a great way while still reading all of the classic stories at bedtime!

"While having read thousands of books, I must admit this is my first book review. I must give high marks to the aspiring author Paulo who paints a clear and very readable picture of his twentieth century familia’s “reverse immigration” back to our Grandparents’ old country. It must have been difficult for our Grandparents 100 years ago to travel here to the USA with assorted language, customs, and travel problems; however Mr. Spadoni’s sensitive and vivid recall of their year “abroad” highlights what it must have been like in reverse citing some of the hilarity and pitfalls of their “return to the old country.” I read it straight through, in public, with some onlookers shaking their heads when I would subconsciously mutter the words “sprezzatura” “la bella” or “passeggiata” while shaking my hand, thumb and fingers pressed together! Especially found the dangerous word confusion of penne/pene and anno/ano extremely educational as I am one that loves trying to use foreign terms without any formal training. • This is such a heartwarming read. I found that the author struck the right balance between specificity and brevity. I found myself genuinely caught up in the suspense of every escapade, from bus ticket snafus to procuring the ever-elusive visa. Spadoni is able to inject his vignettes with a good-natured breeziness that keeps the pace going quite nicely. The stories themselves are vivid and genuine. There's a world of difference between simply going somewhere as a tourist and actually making that somewhere your new world, and the author warmly brings you into each scene as he and his family attempt just that. I also think readers who plan to travel with children, particularly teenagers, will enjoy reading about the special travails the author and his wife navigate, and perhaps even be inspired by their sensitive approach. If you're feeling at all cynical about your workaday, escape into this sincere, sweet tale and realize the best things in life really are the simple things -- good food, friends, and family.
• I don't like to travel so I was hesitant to read a book like this. I am glad I did as the author shared his experiences in a fun and educational way. His experiences with Italian bureaucracy were interesting. The parts about his two daughters held my attention. I am the father of daughters and I wondered how they would have reacted. The author is proud of his Italian heritage and it showed. He made me understand a different country, and I appreciate it. He wrote a fine book!
• Through reading this book, not only did I learn about someone I knew previously, but walked with him and his family through their adventures. I learned about a different culture, laughed at their escapades, and was encouraged to do something similar in the country of my roots...something I've always wanted to do as well. The reason it didn't get 5 stars was some of the chapters had too many and scattered thoughts & events happening at once. I would recommend this To anyone who wants a fun read, or who's interested in life outside the great US of A. It's a quick, light, and enjoyable read.

• One of the joys in my life is traveling, but I also love to sit back and be entertained with travel stories from other people. • This was a fun and fast read, that gave me some good insight into a few things I'll use this summer while taking my teen Girl Scout troop to Italy.
  
  I loved the personal, historical and cultural points throughout, as well as the humorous bits.
  
  Full disclosure, Mr. Spadoni was my journalism teacher in high school, so it was fun to catch up on his adventures since then. Of course that's also why I didn't hesitate to buy it... I knew it would be a great read!

• "The Glorious Quran" compiled by Shehnaz Shaikh & Kausar Khatri, 3 vols., (July 2018). This book provides the Quran as written in Arabic, and then a translation into English -- sentence by sentence, which is just fine. The shortcoming herein is that there is no "transliteration" as to how the Arabic words are to be spoken. A reader can see both the Arabic word and English word, but "how" the Arabic words are to be spoken remains a mystery. A "one star" here just to catch one's attention to the "no transliteration" shortcoming of this book.
• I would buy a copy of the Quran that had the original Arabic, romanji transliteration, and English equivalent as I'm just starting to learn Arabic also. Peoplle familiar with Prabupada's translation of the Bhagavad Gita would know what I mean, less the voluminous scholarly commentaries. I couldn't find any copy at the library that had all three parts either. Still looking. Maybe I'll donate my copy to the library for someone more advanced than I. The English topbar and sidebars could use bigger fonts.

• I have been longing for thesse volumes. I bought all of them Vol 1, 2,3. Alhamdullilah, I am pleased with the quality, print, paper and the papaer binding. It is easy to handleand read. I was more pleased when I saw that that my sale proceeds are going for a good cause. May Allah reward those who put efforts behind it. Insallah, I am going to buy more and tell my friends.I like the Arabic fonts and the way the book is organized. I will not mind to have all in one volume.
• Arabic words with the translation just below it makes it easy to understand the meaning, This is much better than the whole line translation.
• I saw someone with this set at a gathering and I was pleased to find it on as it wasn't available in most of my local Islamic bookshops. I am not a native Arabic speaker/reader so this version of the Qur'an is just fantastic! It makes reading so much easier as you're able to understand each word and put everything into perspective. Highly recommended for both Muslims and non-muslims trying to better understand the Qur'an.

• Along the Tracks, has become part of the top-five requested books read independently in my 8th and 9th grade classes. This book crosses gender interests. It is one that I recommend to reluctant readers and so far, even they have agreed that it is a very interesting read.
• Some Jewish people saw the writing on the wall and were able to get out of Nazi-occupied Europe before World War II began, or at least before the Nazis occupied their particular part of Europe. Certainly they suffered, as all refugees do they had to flee their homes, often on short notice, often with almost nothing but the clothes on their backs, and start all over again in a strange land, and most of them were never able to return home. Most times those people are still referred to as "Holocaust survivors" because they were definitely victims of Nazi aggression. But I prefer the term "Holocaust avoiders" or "Holocaust escapees."
  
  Along the Tracks is just such a story a Polish-Jewish family who were able to escape the Nazi terror by fleeing deep into the Soviet Union. This novel, based on a true story, is about this family and in particular the oldest son, Yankele aka Yasha.
  
  It was a compelling story and definitely a page-turner, and showed a side of the Holocaust and World War II that children aren't often told about. Although they may have never had to deal with concentration camps or gas chambers, the family had to deal with illness, separation, forced labor, starvation, homelessness, and other trials of war.
  
  I thought the second half of the story was much better than the first half. This was mainly because the second half was told from one point of view while the first half had like a zillion different narrators switching back and forth, sometimes three on the same page, which was really jarring and annoying for me. It might not bother some people as much, though. Once the story got into the second half, which had only Yankele/Yasha's perspective, it really galloped along for me.
  
  If you're interested in stories of European refugees who fled into the USSR during World War II, I recommend Anatole Konstantin's A Red Boyhood Growing Up Under Stalin. He was also Jewish and his family fled to Kazakhstan for the duration of the war; his experience was quite similar to the novel.
• I loved this book! It totally sucked me in from the moment I opened it. It's about a young boy's experiences being separated from his family during the Holocaust. His adventures are amazing! He has to overcome his friends dying, hunger, disease, poverty, separation, and even love. And I can't believe it all really happened to a real person!!!
• I really enjoyed reading this book. The story itself was very well written and it also icluded some very interesting history. I would suggest this book to anyone that has any interest in immigration and or World War 2.
• This heartwarming story is about a Jewish boy who loses his family during an air raid on a train. His father is in the war, and he must learn to survive "along the tracks" by stealing and sleeping in coal piles (for warmth) until he finds his family. Setting Poland

• EXTREMELY INFORMATIVE!!! Perfect for the beginners. I love this book so much. Common Sense and works in our daily lives, I don't see how EVERYONE should not become Dharma. I am proud to be reading this book, if someone asks me at the gym what am I reading I proudly show them. Many want to know if this is how I am so calm being a military wife (husband always gone), 4 kids (little ones) and always so positive. I tell them, it does help ) The calm state and meditation does help. I strive to always stay positive throughout my days and not complain about LIFE. I am a changed woman because of this book and I would read it OVER AND OVER AGAIN!
• This book is a very helpful introduction to Buddhism. The author made sure to explain things clearly and continue to define words throughout the entire book, just to help the reader stay on track. • This is a Westerner-friendly discussion of Buddhist beliefs and practices presented in a question-and-answer format. The 21 chapters cover Buddhist beliefs and scriptures, rituals, the role of women, modern social issues like abortion, and practical tips for raising children and dealing with non-Buddhist relatives. The author attempts to fairly represent a variety of Buddhist traditions in a positive light. As a non-Buddhist I found it to be occasionally jargon-y but probably about as clear and straightforward as a "believer" can present their own religion. I think this book would be especially helpful for people who have already decided to embrace Buddhism or who grew up in Buddhist homes but don't really understand the religion they wish to practice. The price is a few dollars cheaper than the print edition both on and in local bookstores, which is always nice to see!

• I was a big fan of the Whistlebrass Horror so I was very excited to find out there was a sequel to the novel. The Whistlebrass Mysteries are kind of like Stephen King novels for kids as you have a group of youngsters living in a Castle Rock-esque Vermont town with a population of spooky characters that just so happens to include a lot of monsters. In this book, it's been months since the original book and everyone has settled down to live comparatively normal lives until a Viking treasure boat is discovered that once more sets the supernatural on the small city.
  
  I like the atmosphere of the books as well as the characters' eccentric history. You have moments like friends gathering flowers in a cemetery, a supremely selfish widow in a hit and run, and a general focus on archaeology as a source of supernatural events. Plus, I give props to any author who willingly names a character Bootsy.
  
  The characters are enjoyable, the atmosphere weird, and this book is every bit as enjoyable as the first. You won't regret picking it up if you like Goosebumps or similar tales. I'm a fan of Briar Lee Mitchell's adult novels as well and recommend them to readers who want more mature horror stories.
• The Whistlebrass Storm Watcher is an amazing tale and is told in a way that helps you visualize, smell and hear in your mind all the elements of the story. Because of the masterful descriptions, I was able to feel emotion for the different charming or treacherous environments and the wonderfully heroic or equally horrifying characters. The storytelling is very well written with rich detail. It would be hard not to become fascinated with the characters in The Wistlebrass Storm Watcher. Each character, good and evil, is beautifully developed. The heroes, heroines and evil creatures move through the story with exciting and unexpected twists and turns. Little details, delight you as they are subtly foreshadowed and later appear as important parts of the story. The story builds to a fantastic and exciting ending. Since this is the second book in the Whirtlebrass series, I suspect and hope there will be more.
• It was great to travel back to Whistlebrass in "The Storm Watcher" and join the residents on their newest supernatural adventure. As in the previous tale of "The Whistlebrass Horror" this book is also a page turner, can't put it down. You must find out what will happen next! Authors Keely and Mitchell weave a story that transports the reader to a town of mysterious happenings and ancient legends where ghosts both good and evil await the residents and unsuspecting visitors. What does the future hold for the citizens of Whistlebrass? A 'must read' book that will not disappoint.

• What a great sequel. I took it to the beach and couldn't put it down. The town's characters are again fully engaged in an adventure with spirits from the past. I love that the female characters are so prominent - especially little Pearl and the college librarian, who really turns out to be a surprise! Following up on the original, it promises excitement for readers of every age. Well done!
• I love the mystery and mayhem mixed with a supernatural twist in the small town of Whistlebrass! I really enjoy the storytelling, it allows your imagination to transport you directly to the scene. The action begins quickly and keeps the storyline moving. I'm the type of reader that can get bored fast, I never worry about that in Whistlebrass! The Whistlebrass series is really a lot of fun for kids and adults alike! I'll be anxiously awaiting to see what adventure is awaiting Casey and the gang next!
• I loved this. It took me a couple of weeks, and sometimes was hard to either put down or continue (especially when just about to go to bed).
  Having read the first WHISTLEBRASS book, I couldn't wait to continue with the story and the characters. And it did not disappoint!

  Pearl is an amazing character (I kinda wish I could see spirits).
  A little bit of learning about search and rescue,
  I enjoyed Kestral, the doubter.
  It was a marvelous second sequel. Hope there will be more!!!

• This book follows in the deliciously spooky tradition of the first Whistlebrass Mystery. It was great to revisit some of the characters I had fallen in love with and to meet new ones. Mitchell and Keely are consummate storytellers. The plot is smart, fast paced and full of surprises. An excellent read for tweens and teens. Can't wait for book three!

• We were thinking of buying property in western Massachusetts, but this book has caused us to rethink that plan.
  
  Note that this author is a respected attorney who has meticulously documented all events and points of law. She has provided copious references, copies of letters (some redacted), and detailed proof of all of her assertions. She clearly is an expert on this subject.
  
  The book provided many examples of assessor malfeasance. It is hard to believe this sort of thing goes on these days. The things we read made our stomachs turn. The story about the accessors who went after the poor, sick 91 year old woman knowing she would die before she could contest their illegal activities was particularly repulsive.
  
  It was also shocking to see how assessors have no oversight and can actually assess their own and their friends and relatives properties at any amount they choose with impunity!
  
  We had been house shopping in the area for a while and had noticed with alarm as property taxes skyrocketed. It was strange to watch the home values plummet at the same time.
  
  GazetteNet.com reports that

  "Belchertown board OKs 3% increase in property taxes -- The rate will rise from $14.86 per $1,000 of assessed valuation, to $15.65 for the next fiscal year, an increase of 3 percent. [...] Under the new rate, owners of single-family homes in Belchertown assessed at the average of $251,487 will pay $3,935 in taxes for the year." Belchertown decided not to charge commercial property any higher than residential property.
  
  The report goes on to quote the director of assessments in Belchertown, John Whelihan "We're still lower than the statewide average (of $4,390), if that's any consolation"

  Yes, I am sure that makes residents feel much better about the fact that their taxes are going up while they are getting poorer each year as the economy continues to falter.
  
  But aside from the exorbitant tax rates in the area, it is the corrupt, illegal, arbitrary activities of the assessors that is most disturbing. That along with the fact that the agencies that are there to protect people FAILED COMPLETELY to act when cases were brought to their attention. Yes, all the way up to the Attorney General!
  
  Goodbye Massachusetts! We will buy property elsewhere, thank you very much.

• Can you IMAGINE?!!! This book outlines one horror story after another! The assessors were even threatening her by going onto her property and leaving nails in the driveway and other items as a warning to stop exposing their corruption!
  
  The assessors were valuing their own houses far below market value, and everyone who challenged them far above market value. If that is not greed and corruption, I don't know what is!
  
  Yes, the property values in western Massachusetts keep going up as property values are plummeting. The local governments declare they have to increase tax rates to make up for lost property taxes or services will be eliminated.
  
  Well, gee, why didn't they lower tax rates when property values were booming and they were collecting excess revenue? Ever wonder about that?
  
  And if property values ever increase again, do you think the rates will be lowered then to give you a break, or will you just pay an even HIGHER amount when they do?
  
  This book is shining a light into the darkness that surrounds the entire property tax system in Massachusetts. Good for the author for her heroic efforts. And shame on us for letting these assessors get away with this vile behavior.
• Because of this book I was able to save myself $900. I met with the assessors in my location and they reduced my property taxes by $900. Without the information in this book that never would have happened. Many thanks to Patricia Quintilian for this guide to keeping them honest. It sure opened my eyes!

• With the release of Lord of the Rings years ago and the long-awaited, recent release of first in The Hobbit trilogy, author Sarah Arthur (of Walking With Frodo and Walking Through the Wardrobe) has once again taken pop cultural movies (based on classic fiction) and related it to the Christian faith.
  
  I was skeptical at first but intrigued. I've read other devotionals and studies that twist movies themes and occurrences to vaguely connect with the Christian faith but from the start Walking with Bilbo was different. By the third chapter (I read one a day), I was in love with this devotional. The chapters easily tie the books to Christianity but the author went well beyond the obvious and deep into The Hobbit and Lord of the Rings with vignettes about both classics and Tolkien's life and writing career.
  
  While Arthur suggest strongly that her readers should make their way through The Hobbit (at least) but even without re-reading it, a basic familiarity of the story's plot (or watching the movie) will give the reader the gist. I was incredibly intrigued by the insight the author had and the points she chose to make in comparing The Hobbit and Bilbo's story with Christianity. More than anything else, the thought-provoking questions at the end of each chapter led to further introspection rather than just pat questions often found for group discussion.
  
  It is my opinion that Sarah Arthur did her readers an amazing service in this book. She has taken us on a trip through Middle Earth and deepened our Christian faith at the same time. She has helped Tolkien fans find a common ground between fantasy and faith and helps them find Christ in the process. This is a devotional/study guide that everyone, from women's groups to pre-teens can understand and enjoy.
• In Walking with Bilbo, Sara Arthur explores the parallels between our daily Christian lives and the adventure that Gandalf invited Bilbo to take. Each chapter begins with a quote from The Hobbit, a relate-able story that is relevant to today and the parallel between that and Bilbo's journey, a Bible verse that relates, questions to help the reader in "going further" and a list of Scriptures that correlate to the topic of the chapter (i.e. "The Word on Accepting the Job, The Word on Being Chosen, The Word on Being Wise in God's Eyes).
  
  I read through the first two or three chapters, just to see how they were and I really enjoyed the ability to correlate The Hobbit and Bilbo's Journey to The Bible and our Christian journey. The chapters are laid out well and I love that there are questions at the end and Scriptures to dig deeper. I think this is an excellent addition to the library of anyone (especially YOUTH) who enjoy Tolkien and The Hobbit.
• If you are looking to walk the path of spirituality derived from the Lord of the Ring or the Hobbit then for this book you better be a Christian. This book is written from a Christian perspective for Christians. THe only thing is that most Christians or die hard ones will get their spirituality from the Bible not a fantasy novel. Those who do derive lessons will have a diffrent spiritual orientation altogether. JRR Tolkien himself was a Christian and it no doubt bled into his works.
  
  THe author goes chapter by chapter delivering forth a spiritual lesson to be derived from the chapter. Whethyer Tolkien meant for it to be that way is to dificult to tell. The author looks at the Hobit as a parable for Jesus and spiritual worker. THe Hobbit teaches via selection of Bilbo that Christ is looking for a few food people, people with hidden qualities, people who are humble and people who are willing to do what it takes. Often times like Bilbo we do not get a job description or at best it is very scarce and never really prepares us for what to expect. Are we indeed qualified. God only know as does Gandalf in the Hobbit. It is sheer madness to break away from the norm like Bilbo did in the Hobbioty. No Hobbit ever went on adenventures, Bilbo did and was judged for it. We too are judged when we quest for the spiritual. Often tiomes the Bible will ask us to be fools for Christ or God. When we have to travel on a spiritual journey or do God's work we oftn times have to travel light and leave behind many things we find comfortable. THe keyu to trabvelling success is traveling light. Gandalf comes and goes much like God does. Often on very difernt errands yet we are never totally alone we must fight the battle and yet when things get too tough Gandalf or God reappears for us. Things do not always go as planned at times it will go awry but there is a reason for that. It is part of God's plan not ours. In the face of disaster whenwe canot fix things we have but one choice and that is to move on and move forward. Things can seem difficult but help comesw when we least exct like eagles swoopiong form the sky to rescue us from orc and wargs this what Tolkien called a eucatastrophe. We can walk God';s path or our path. On Gods path we experience adventure that will build us up and on our opwn path we expereince misadventure which means bad problems.
  
  THe lesson in this book are many. THe reader is taught about decency, honesty and the dangers of greed. More over we usually learn about how even the smallest person can be the biggest hero.
• You don't need to be a teen to appreciate this book. It is directed to both teens and adults. I was very blessed by each devotional which are very deep and practical. The verse selection at the end of each entry fit perfectly. It is worth the time to read these verses and go over the questions she poses to truly round out and expand on your faith adventure.
  
  It's been years seen I saw the movies for Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit (in fact The Hobbit was a cartoon movie I watched with my son years ago) So if your not up to date on the plots, etc. she takes the time to unfold the events, but not to the point of over kill.
  
  I look forward to reading more of her books!
• I read a free copy of this book through a library loan and loved it so much I bought a copy of not only this one but also the companion book Walking With Frodo! I loved how the author used quotes from the life of Bilbo and his friends to then make applications that we can use in our own lives today. She then takes the reader to the inspired Scriptures to show how, with God's help, we can make the right choices.
