This book suggests that institutional culture can account for a great deal of the activities and rationale of the Royal Navy. War highlights the role of culture in military organizations and as such acts as a spotlight by which this phenomenon can be assessed seperately and then in comparison in order to demonstrate the influence of institutional culture on strategy.

"I took a course on Modern War at Oxford University this summer and this book was invaluable in putting together a research paper on the Falklands War of 1982. In fact, this was the first Kindle book I ever ordered on my iPad where I read the whole thing. The material is well organized and lays out a decent account of the reasons for success and failure on both the British and Argentinean naval forces. While not a dense and through re-telling of the entire conflict, this book clearly explained how the Royal Navy operated and how its performance was aided by the decisions (right or wrong) on both sides of the conflict.
For anyone who wishes to understand how close Britain came to losing this conflict were it not for their (reprieved) naval fleet, this book will undoubtedly help."
