Ethan and Ava Redwood Falls Book 4 edition by Lynda Chance Literature Fiction eBooks Reviews
- I have read the majority of the author's books and while it is not my favorite it is not the one I like the least either. That story would be An Eye for An Eye, Katie and Zack's story that is the second book in this series. It was just too depressing to me and not how I want to feel while reading this author's books.
I read the author's books because not only is she a good writer but usually because she gives me what I want in a romance book. A story that has a jealous, possessive, protective and faithful alpha hero with hot sexy times and a HEA ending. This book had most of those elements. Ethan certainly was jealous, possessives and protective. Also there were definitely hot sexy times in the story but not so many it overwhelms the plot. Also we got the HEA ending with an epilogue with many years in the future which I liked. In fact I would have given the story a 4 star rating if the author had not made Ethan a manhoe. It is not that Ethan is the worse manhoe I read about. He certainly isn't.
Unlike some other manhoes he is faithful to Ava after getting physical with her including during the separation.
The problem for me is that Ethan gets compared to all of the author's other alphas and he comes up short in the fidelity department. He wanted Eva but could not have her because of her age (they are 1 1/2 years apart). However instead of waiting to have sex with her like Josh did when he met and dated Hannah (who was 2 1/2 years younger than him), the characters from the first book in the series, Ethan had smex with OW while imaging Ava's face. So not cool. Ethan admitted that he was out trolling for other girls a lot and closing his eyes while pushing into them. He claimed that he wanted Ava so much but unlike the author's other heroes, he was not wiling to go without. Apparently his hand was not good enough. That made me feel less for him coupled with the fact that had sex on the brain in general at least during the first 15 percent of the story.
The author said that she could not rewrite history, that Ethan was a manhoe in other books. I have read Josh and Hannah too many times to count and I there were never any scenes with Ethan and OW. If a reference was made to him being a manhoe then I missed it. However even if it was stated in another book authors have creative licenses to change things including a character's history and I cannot see one fan complaining if Ethan's manhoe's past was not discussed. The story could have started from the point he was celibate which was over a year before he got together with Ava. No details were needed, no thoughts about pushing into other girls. This should especially be the case given that Ava had not even dated OM much less had smex with them. She only kissed a few boys. Why emphasize how much more sexually experienced he was than her? Such a sexist double standard. However admittedly it only really bothers me when a hero will not give up having smex with OW after wanting the heroine.
The other reason that I deducted a star is that the story dragged in places. It probably didn't help that they spent too much time apart and miserable in the second half of the book. Also there seemed to be a lot of telling and no showing. I just wasn't feeling the things that happened. Rather I felt very much removed from them, unlike how I feel when reading the author's other books. - Holy heck! Okay, wow! While this book is everything I expected from this author, it also had some angsty surprises that gutted me.
Ethan has known Ava all their lives. As his best friend’s little sister she’s always been right there in front of him. That also means when she begins to grow up and becomes a woman…she is right there in front of him. And he doesn’t miss a single thing. After fighting against his desires for so long, he finally makes his move.
Ava has had a huge crush on Ethan forever and when he finally takes a step towards her, she’s so very ready. But life can tend to get complicated and such is the case when it comes to Ethan and Ava’s relationship. They have a lot of things going against them but if they hold strong together and stick to their plans they can find their happy ever after. But again…life is complicated.
They had a long road ahead of them to get there, but he was single-minded – hell bent even – in his determination to achieve the life he wanted for them. Everything else was just details.
I absolutely LOVE Ethan. He is everything I adore in a hero. Fierce and determined in his need to claim his woman. Protective, jealous – even when not necessary, and strong enough to face their troubles without giving into them. His desire for Ava couldn’t have been more clearly shown. He could only fight it for so long before he takes what he was always afraid of never getting even a taste of.
While Ava’s character was a little less developed, she is the one that most of the angst revolves around. Her issues with her family had me on the edge of my seat so many times. I mean, really. Her mother was like psycho-mom and I never did trust her.
I’ve loved everything that this author writes because she knows exactly how I want my hero. Even if there are parts that might drive a reader crazy, it’s ultimately the hero that will keep you coming back for more. After all, she’s the queen of alpha heroes for a reason. They are just soo good and Ethan reminded me of that fact.
Ethan loved her with a single-minded devotion that brooked no resistance.
This is a fast read and holy heck the chemistry is sizzling. As in, I-hope-no-one-sees-my-red-cheeks-and-quickened-breathing sizzling. The angst is pretty high here but not outrageously so and almost all of it is due to outside forces. We have some great views of Josh and Hannah and what I hope is the foundation for Ty’s story. There’s a reason he went to Houston and I know who choose that town to live in.
I HIGHLY recommend this book to anyone who is addicted to a ferocious, all consuming alpha hero. Every woman needs an Ethan in their life!
Dual POV - I have been waiting 6 years for Ava and Ethan's story! So glad it finally arrived today--out of the blue. I didn't realize this book was on its way.
Sat down and started reading right away. Lynda Chance allowed Ethan and Ava to develop more as characters than we were able to see in the first book in the series. She had time to think out how the relationship could grow and did a great job with it.
I have hope that the author might extend the Redwood Falls series, perhaps with the stories of Ava's and Hannah's children. Fireworks for sure from those daddies! Lynda, please keep writing.
This book can be read as a stand alone, even though it is part of a series. - I will admit that I have been waiting for Ethan and Ava's story since I finished Josh and Hannah's story. Thank you Lynda for bringing this beautiful tale to life and sharing it with us.
I enjoyed seeing the storyline through Ethan's perspective as well as Ava's. Even knowing from previous stories in the series that the subject matter was going to be potentially difficult, I felt it was handle eloquently and given the thought and care I've always enjoyed in her novels. The "steam" factor was appropriate and added to their story very well. The pace was perfect and I didn't feel as if a single word was a waste of time. It was absolutely worth the wait.
